ABOUT

I have been a ceramic artist for more than 40 years. I have won recognition in juried shows and have been the principal teacher at my own studio in Brooklyn, NY. Today I split my time between working at my studios in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Beaverkill, New York.

My work has evolved over the years from primarily functional to sculptural, although some of my non-representational pieces take the shape of vessels.

My work has a natural organic quality and I take inspiration from forms in nature such as rocks, roots, shells, driftwood, ruins, and fossils that I enjoy collecting. I am fascinated by the skeletal quality of both natural and human forms and my recent work exposes the underlying framework for the viewer to see.

I strive to present uniqueness, authenticity and individuality, particularly as a counterpoint to what I see as the homogenization of the world around us. I would like the viewer to recognize the energetic, dynamic but simple aspects of my work.
